Canberra project manager blames victim for workplace death

An independent consultant has blamed his client's colleague for the death of a young woman after a collision between his car and hers on the Gold Coast.

The woman died from the impact of the car's front end slamming against hers as the pair pulled into a shopping centre in the eastern suburb of Clifton Heights about 11:20pm (AEST) on Monday night.

She died later in hospital, after suffering a head injury that her family have described as "extremely severe" and caused permanent brain damage.

Andrew Jackson said his client and the woman were in a heated argument when he heard her voice coming from an apartment close to his and called her and left the scene.

"My client, who was in his car with a woman friend at the time, suddenly heard the voice and turned into the path of the pedestrian on a red light and hit her," he said.

"She lost consciousness and, when she began to revive, she died.

"I haven't seen her. I don't remember if she's the victim or the killer."

The man and woman were a passenger on Jackson's taxi at the time but not witnesses, he said.

"I haven't come across any other people who know what he has done," he said.

He also said his client had lost a good friend and partner.

"Her death is a complete shock to the whole community who have only just learned of the tragic circumstances surrounding it," Mr Jackson said.

'She was just beautiful': victim's family

But Jackson is not in doubt that his client's actions were motivated, not coincidentally.

"She was just beautiful because she had a really good personality," he said.

"I've never met her friend, or anyone else, who's ever said, 'Yeah, it was all his fault because of her'."

The Gold Coast MP for the Northern Territory and Southern Queensland is urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit the online page to submit a police report.

Honduras zelaya accepts unity government proposal
